How to resize images without altering proportions

Using most Windows-based software (Photoshop, Word, Powerpoint, etc.)
  1. Insert image into document. Select image to be enlarged or reduced by left-clicking on the image once.
  2. In most Windows-based programs, a selected image will have a “box” around it, with thicker squares on each corner and in the middle of each side (see below). These squares can be used to alter the size of the image.
  3. Position the mouse over one of the corners of the box. The cursor will change to a line with an arrow at either end.
  4. Click and hold the left mouse button. At the same time, hold down the shift key.
  5. While holding both the shift key and the left mouse button, drag the cursor towards or away from the center of the image to resize. The box surrounding the image will change size as you move the mouse, to give you an idea of how big the new image will be.
  6. When you are satisfied with the new size, release the mouse button, then release the shift key. Your image will now be the desired size.
